The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts various competitive exams. These competitive exams are for the recruitment of people for the positions in the lower categories in the various government offices all over India. They provide excellent opportunities to the youth to become a part of the bureaucratic set up of the country.

Some competitive exams under the category of SSC competitive Exams are described below:

Assistants Grade Exam

: These examinations are conducted by the Staff Selection Commission for recruitment at different government offices. The selections of the candidates are in two stages. They are conducted once in a year.

Clerks Grade Exam

: These exams are conducted in two stages such as General Intelligence Test and General Awareness. The candidates who clear both these exams would only be eligible to write the main examination.

Combined Graduate Preliminary Exam

: These exams are used to recruit candidates to the post of Auditors, Junior Accountants, and Accountants in various government agencies such as Central police organizations, Central Excise and Income Tax. These exams are conducted once in a year in month of February.

Combined Matric Preliminary Exam: These exams are held once in a year. These exams are mainly conducted to recruit stenographers grade C and stenographer grade D and lower division clerks in the various government offices.

Divisional Accountants/Auditors/UDC Exam: These exams are held every year for the recruitment of the posts such as Auditors in the Defence Accounts Department, Junior Accountants in the various departmentalized accounts offices in the Central Ministries, upper division clerks in the offices of Collectorates of Central Excise and Customs, upper division clerks in the offices of Commissioners of Income Tax.

Income Tax/ Excise Inspectors, etc Exam: These exams are held once every year in the month of April. The exams are conducted in two stages such as written exams and interview for personality test. The candidates who have qualified in the written exams are eligible for the interview.

Stenographers Grade C Exam: These exams are organized for the recruitment of the personnel into grade C stenographers for the Central Secretariat and for the Railway Board Secretariat, for Armed forces headquarters and grade II stenographers for the Indian Foreign Services. They also recruit for the stenographers in various government offices, other departments which are not part of the above mentioned services. These exams are conducted in the month of March every year.

Stenographers Grade D Exam: These exams are conducted in the month of May every year. The successful candidates are recruited into two sections known as Group X and Group Y. Group X consists of posts such as ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Indian Foreign Service (B) Grade III, Election Commission of India Stenographers Grade D, Central Vigilance Commission, and Central Secretariat Stenographers Service Grade D. in the Group Y category includes recruitment for Indian Foreign Service (B), Election commission of India, President s secretariat, Central Vigilance Commission, and posts of stenographers in various other government departments and organizations and offices attached to the government of India.
