At approximately 11:30 am local time passengers were evacuated from Rafael Hernandez Airport (BQN) in Aguadilla, PR. A bag was left unattended and as a precaution Puerto Rico State Police and airport security asked all to evacuate the building. The C-5 Coffee Express coffee shop remained open during the entire ordeal.

Rafael Hernandez Airport is a small airport. Only Jetblue and Spirit Airlines fly commercial flights at the airport. Only one terminal exists and their are only two gates. Passengers must walk on to the aircraft on a ramp or steps.

Today a bag was left unattended and some passengers feared a bomb was left in the bag. Others feared perhaps drugs were left in the bag. While some passengers spent the time at C-5 Coffee Express many waited outside. One elderly woman suffered a fall and hit her head. Another elderly woman was visibly shaken. After about an hour a middle aged man with a Puerto Rico lanyard around his neck claimed the bag and the airport was reopened. Puerto Rico State Police questioned the man but he was allowed to board his flight to New York. A local security guard reported that the man had left the bag in the airport and then visited a coffee shop outside of the airport. After an hour the ordeal was over and passengers boarded their flight.
