Green Lantern Workout

This is the summer of blockbuster movies, particularly comic book character movies. These movies aren t a real big difficulty for an thespian who has been experienced but they can be difficult from a physical perspective. In most comic books, the superheroes are drawn with rippling muscle structures and the actors hired for the role have to represent this. One thespian who never disappoints in any of his roles and always represents the superhero movie physique well is Ryan Reynolds. Ryan was in amazing shape for his role in Wolverine and looks to be in even better shape for Green Lantern. How does he do it?

Exercise for the Green Lantern Body

Ryan works with trainer Bobby Strom to get fit. He has been working with Strom for the past eight years to prepare for movie roles which require his stature to be lean and muscular. Strom has another excellent client named Scarlett Johannson whom he trained for her Iron Man 2 role. He definitely knows a thing about whipping people into superhero shape and making it look more believable for movie goers. So what did Reynolds program include to revolutionize him into Green Lantern?

To get the super hero stature, Reynolds did something rather unconventional and unheard of in fitness circles. He experienced every day instead of giving himself rest to recuperate from the strenuous demands of training regime. He would have liked to rest more but with the demands of shooting the movie it wouldn t let him. Here is what his system consisted of:

Consistency – Ryan didn t miss any time in the gym. Each workout was a 90 minute program with the trainer.

Functional training regime – Reynolds used kickboxing which got him ready him for fighting sequences

Back movements – Ryan s trainer added back exercises because of the harness work he had to do.

Nutrition – RR followed a simple eating plan but stripped out sugar and drank lots of wate

Yoga and Pilates – These were done on lower energy time or when there was a long day of filming

Ingest food every 2-3 hours to avoid binging and loss of energy.

These are things Ryan did to achieve the Green Lantern look. He did a number of interviews where he stated it required a great deal of discipline to get himself ready for the role. It demanded he work out every day which is unheard of in fitness circles. In most exercise routines, it is standard that the body gets one day of rest to recuperate and grow muscle. Ryan didn’t have this option as he was on the set everyday getting prepared for the movie. This would prove to be a factor to keep the actor focused on preparing for the movie
